Spring has Sprung!
Pollen is abounding, birds are chirping, and this can only mean one thing - spring has officially begun! and formal season is finally here.
Whether you are getting ready for your school's spring formal or brushing through catalogues in anticipation for the prom, formal season can be a busy time. Unlike homecoming where dress code may vary on a number of factors; personal preference, and school theme being some of them, formal and prom during Spring are almost always guaranteed to be formal or semi-formal in nature. This means that wearing a Tuxedo will be less optional and more a primary 'must-have'. Here are a few things to keep in mind when prepping that perfect look for formal.
Bow-Tie's are cool, no, really! In the past couple of years, I have definitely noticed the return of the classic bow-tie. Nice, clean and elegant - Formal and semi-formal events mean that you should be wearing a bow-tie and you should always be seeing how you can customize and diversify the look.
Color Palete Matters Although it is always a traditional choice to stick to the monochrome colors of black and white, for the old school tuxedo look, Spring Formal can be a time to throw caution to the wind and have more fun. If you’re in the mood to make a statement for your formal, consider adding some color into your look, such as a bright vest and/or bow-tie. Spring time is a time when life is at its most full and abundant, so don't be afraid to be bold and confident. If you’ll be attending the formal with a date, it is more than likely the case that your color scheme will already be coordinated; as your date will want to have a matching outfit. Bringing in the dress when searching for your tuxedo would be the best way to make sure that pattern and color matches. Cell phone cameras can be grainy and with dubious lighting provide an inaccurate representation of the color and pattern.
Keep it Cool, wearing a tuxedo, while an intrinsically cool attire, can get a bit warm especially with seasons tidings. For those blessed with west coast weather an evening of dancing could turn into a night of drenched exhaustion. This is where the importance of the vest and cummerbund come into play. Both items allow you to take your jacket off and boogie the night away while remaining cool and elegantly chic.
Keeping these small details in mind will turn any spring formal into a budding night to remember.
As always, may the dapper be with you!
